David BLANDin from (in)Humana called me today (Saturday!) presumably to try and appease me. Can't you just tell by his tone that he's a professional 'calm that bitch down'er? I guess my letter got to the right person though.

I didn't want to call him back today. What should I say when I do? My mom thinks I will never be able to reach him. Thomas thinks they will approve my twice daily nexium for 3 months and then make me go through the whole fiasco again.

I think I'm going to try and go more public with the letter (and then pray that the rest of my claims don't all get denied from here on out).

Actually, he just sounds calmly polite. I didn't detect any condescension or oil on troubled waters quality to his voice.

Personally, I think you should give him a call and see if they're willing to work with you. Give them the opportunity to fix this before you try to do anything more public. At least they're reaching out to you.

Who knows, maybe he's calling to tell you there was a massive clusterfuck and that you should have been approved for your Nexium long ago. You don't want to fuck that up...

I will not fuck anything up. I've been playing this game for a loooooooong time (from both sides of the field) and am really amazingly good at it. I was just amused that he called on a Saturday and sounded like a live version of all their automated phone calls.

It's funny to me that the non-empaths are responding here :)

I will definitely call him and be utterly gracious and kind. That said, I think it's reasonable for me to be suspect of his motives after being denied by 4 different 'medical decision makers' for the same issue. (I just got the last two letters, I was under the false impression one MDM was handling my file but noooooo.)

I'm sure his motives are suspect (at least as far as his being a cog in the claims-denying machine), but I also think you're projecting on his tone. Dude just sounds detachedly polite. He sounds like my mortgage broker.

This. I think I can speak for most INTJ's when I say we can certainly be empathetic, but that doesn't take away our cold logic and innate suspicion regarding the motives of others. IMO it makes us better because, while we can certainly "feel your pain", we also automagically distance ourselves from it, so that we don't actually contract your pain.

Sort of a self-defense mechanism. And it makes us deadly poker players.

That said, I have no doubt Mr. Blandin will try some sort of trickery, but stick to your guns and the medical documentation that you do, indeed, require this medication.

lol, speaking as someone who works in a call center, that is a PRIME example of a "don't be mad at me, here let me give you my professional sexy voice" voice. I use it when rednecks are getting riled up and aren't listening to me. Usually because they don't like what I have to say. ;)

Maybe that's how I knew the tone: years of call center(esque) experience! I left him a voice message early this morning and have not received a call back...
